Agathocles - Alive and Mincing
Crimes Against Humanity - - CD
Agathocles burst out what is somewhere between their 200 and 300th release on this CD. This is a live CD from Wermelskirchen, Germany recorded in September of 2000. Awesome sound quality and really good. We wouldn’t have released it if it didn’t sound awesome. Agathocles play brutal grindcore/mincecore and have been a band for a super long time.

Am/Fm - Mutilate Us
Polyvinyl - - CD
Multi-layered vocal harmonies play over tunes that twist and turn from acoustic pulses into electric coughs and howls. A rustic and organic exploration into contemporary Americana that lyrically and musically contradict from song to song. What remains true is the simple honesty to which the songs are presented, an honesty that makes AM/FM’s songs universal.

AM/FM - Getting Into Sinking
Polyvinyl - - 12inch
Releasing two records in a matter of six months is generally unheard of, but Philadelphia's AM/FM believe it can be done. Mutilate Us, their debut record from earlier this year, is a lo-fi blend of pop, psychedelia and indie rock with obvious nods to Guided By Voices, Modest Mouse and the Beach Boys. In fact, their beautiful take on the Beach Boys' "Disney Girl (1957)" is as close as it gets to Bruce Johnston performing the original. What makes Mutilate Us great, besides the well-crafted pop songs, the exquisite instrumentation and the honeysweet vocals, are the little things: the falsetto back up vocals, the occasional screeches and how the harmony can fall out of tune and still contain its composure. Brian Sokel and Michael Parsell's second album, Getting Into Sinking, begins with the wonderfully title "Virgins! Virgins!" and doesn't slow down. Not a sequel to their debut, but a friendly companion, this record sounds less home-made and more full, detracting slightly from the interesting textures they achieved on Mutilate Us, but with more confidence. "If We Burned All The Assholes The Earth Would Look Like The Sun" is an uplifting jingle complimented by a nice trombone; "Head Gone Vertical" has the most interesting hip-hop beat indie rock has heard all year and this time around, Leonard Cohen is the prey as they cover "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye" with the utmost respect.

AM/FM - Mutilate Us
Polyvinyl - - 12inch
Mutilate Us, is an album that puts Sokel's style somewhere between bedroom fantasy, pop wanderings, and densely packed musical compositions. Multi-layered vocal harmonies play over songs that twist and turn from acoustic pulses into electric coughs and howls. A rustic and organic exploration into contemporary Americana that lyrically and musically contradict from song to song.

Am/Fm - The Sky is the New Ground
Polyvinyl - - CD
Originally, these four songs were slated to be part of an album, but oddly enough ended up fitting together very neatly as a concept EP about an astronaut. The EP builds on top of AM/FM’s dense pop arrangements and add huge guitar symphonies and string arrangements for a fully fleshed-out sound.
“When the electric guitars kick in….you feel like you’re in a John Hughes and you just got the girl or boy. As you're walking down the street, the camera zooms in and you've got just the biggest, most hopeful grin smacked on your face. Yeah, it's that good. AM/FM is reaching deep with their music, making emotional music with melodies you want to hear playing at your prom, your wedding, your funeral. Get this EP and get their next record. If it is anything like “The Sky Is the New Ground”, it will be stuck in your player for weeks — Tim Sendra/AMG

Ambrose - Transatlantic Blues
Defiance - - 12inch

Amendment Eighteen - All My Heroes Are Dead
New Age - - 12inch
It's hard to keep a good punk down. And you can be sure that the best punks aren't going to let a thing like aging stop them, or even slow them down. As such, Amendment Eighteen join the ranks of Shelter and Seven Seconds as one of the few post-youth crew bands around (hardcore bands with members who are approaching or have recently passed the age of 30). While most of their contemporaries have given up on the old-school hardcore scene, the A18 guys are determined to keep it alive with this debut release. All My Heroes are Dead offers up 15 tracks of pure pissed off and pent-up human emotion and rage from former members of A Chorus of Disapproval, Outspoken and Insted. Old school hardcore from guys who were around the first time and know how to do it right.
